Our campervan conversion process
MAKING A START
Once the interior has been stripped, we apply a rust inhibitor and under-body protector to insure the bodywork stays corrosion free. The paneling is filled with a recycled plastic wool insulation that has zero dust and rigid foam sheet cut to size. Then we close off the inside walls with 1.5mm aluminum sheet which is then either carpeted or covered with decorative vinyl roll. The ceiling is covered with 3mm timber hard board sheets that can be painted. Next the floor gets 2 layers of 10mm plywood and is finished with a vinyl lino covering that is sealed at the edges. |

ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS
A leisure battery or a pack of batteries is installed. Charging is from the engine alternator (while the vehicle is running) and/or from solar panels installed on the roof. Lights, USB power ports, 12volt plug sockets and fanned skylights, microwave and fridge are all available options. There is also an electric "hookup", 230volt power supply for when electricity is available at a camp site. A trickle charger can then be used to keep the batteries topped up. |
WATER SYSTEMS Fresh water, Grey water and Toilet waste A wet room with a Hot water shower and electric flush cassette toilet. An exterior hatch for access to toilet waste tank. The wet room is water-sealed and the floor/fiberglass shower tray drains to the grey water tank that is installed under the camper van. Fresh water tanks/barrels plus the grey water tank are connected to 12 volt pressure controlled pumps. Also installed is a water fill port with a 12 volt socket and a hose connection for the discharge of grey water for washing down equipment. |

The heat source for these can be candles, a paraffin lamp or alcoholic stove. Also available are hot air blowers that run on diesel - great for drying out wet gear in the storage space at the rear of the van. Anything is possible...
